Using an Email Alias Without Losing Your Order Receipts

Rostan Machane ·

A forwarding email alias can keep your main address out of a checkout form while still receiving messages. The practical requirement is simple: keep the alias working long enough to receive delivery updates and support replies.

Understand the forwarding address

Apple's Hide My Email, available with iCloud+, creates random addresses that forward to a personal inbox. You can manage them in Settings under your Apple Account, iCloud, Hide My Email. Deactivating an address stops its forwarding.

This hides the main address from that recipient; it does not make a purchase anonymous or remove delivery and payment information needed for an order.

Keep an order record

Note which alias you used and save the confirmation privately. If you contact Dear Tingle from a different address later, include the order number and explain that an alias was used. Do not post the receipt publicly to prove ownership.

Check that confirmations arrive before disabling or changing forwarding. Account recovery messages for a companion app may use the same address if you chose it there, so keep shopping and app accounts clearly identified.

Separate newsletters from order support

If you only want to stop promotional email, use the sender's unsubscribe option where appropriate rather than disabling an address that also receives important order messages. Review the sender and message type before clicking a link.

Our app account guide covers a separate task. Deactivating an email alias does not delete that account or revoke access already granted through it. Choose an arrangement you can maintain, not just one that looks private at checkout.
