Practical guides
Before Installing a Toy App, Read Its Privacy Information
Before installing a toy-control app, confirm its developer and read the privacy section on its official store listing. Then open the developer's privacy policy. A familiar app icon, a Bluetooth connection or a polished website does not answer what information the service collects.
Match the app to the product
Use the app name and official download link supplied for your exact device. If those details conflict, resolve that first. For a Dear Tingle order, ask support to identify the supported app rather than installing several similarly named alternatives.
Read the store disclosure
Apple's App Privacy section describes information the developer reports collecting, including whether data is linked to a person or used for tracking. Apple explains that these details are self-reported. The section is useful for questions; it is not a guarantee that a particular app is private in every situation.
In Google Play, open the app's Data safety section and its expanded details. Google explains that developers describe collection, sharing and handling there, and that practices may differ with the version, region or features used. Read the linked policy for those distinctions.
Write down four answers
- Which company operates the app?
- Is an account required for the feature you want?
- What information does the developer say it collects or shares?
- How can you end shared access and request account deletion?
If a policy is vague about a feature you care about, ask the developer before enabling it. You can decide that a device with physical controls is a better match for your preferences. You do not have to use every function offered by an app.
Keep permissions separate from disclosures
A Bluetooth permission controls a specific kind of phone access. It is not the app's complete data policy. Conversely, a store label may describe practices across several features rather than only the local connection you plan to use.
Our iPhone Bluetooth guide and Android permissions guide cover the connection settings. Make those decisions one feature at a time, with the official instructions in front of you.
Save the developer's support address and the policy link with the model details. That gives you a useful route for later questions without treating the shop, the phone maker and the app developer as the same organisation.
