A Rechargeable Vibrator Is Unusually Hot: When to Stop

Rostan Machane ·

Unusual heat, swelling or a change in shape is a reason to stop using a rechargeable device, not a reason to try a stronger charger. If a lithium-battery device is smoking, sparking, hissing, burning or releasing a chemical smell, leave the area and call emergency services. In Canada and the United States, call 911. Do not handle the device to make a support video.

Put safety ahead of diagnosis

The Calgary Fire Department identifies these as warning signs of a battery emergency. Its guidance for a damaged or unusually hot battery is to stop use and unplug charging equipment only if it is safe to do so. Do not put yourself close to a hazardous device to complete that step.

This is different from trying to interpret an ordinary charging light. Do not leave a damaged device connected while waiting for a seller to reply, open its housing, puncture it or attempt a battery replacement in a sealed product.

Record details after the situation is safe

A support request can explain the model, purchase date, cable used, power source and what you noticed. State whether it happened during charging or while operating. You do not need to reproduce the problem for the sake of a more convincing demonstration.

Keep existing order information and any photographs already taken safely. Do not invent a temperature reading or describe the battery chemistry as known if you have not identified it from the manual or markings.

Ask about the return or collection route

A routine returns address is not permission to mail a damaged battery device. Tell the seller about the damage before following shipping instructions. Ask the local battery or electronics collection service how to handle the complete item; do not put it into an ordinary collection box without checking acceptance.

For a Dear Tingle order, contact support once it is safe to do so. Our recycling guide explains the distinction between a loose battery and a device with an embedded battery.

Keep routine care model specific

When a device is undamaged and behaving normally, use its documented charging setup. The charging guide covers ordinary cable and indicator checks. It is not a troubleshooting route for a smoking, swollen or abnormally hot product.
