Waterproof vs Water Resistant Toys: Check the Details

Rostan Machane ·

Before taking a vibrator near water, check the instructions for the exact model. “Water resistant,” “washable” and “waterproof” should not be treated as interchangeable promises. What matters is the exposure the manufacturer actually permits.

Look for an explicit permitted use

Does the manual allow wiping with a damp cloth, rinsing, shower use or submersion under stated conditions? Those are different activities. If a listing only says “easy to clean,” it has not answered the water-use question.

Some product documentation includes an ingress-protection rating. Read it alongside the manufacturer's limits rather than assuming it permits every kind of water exposure. Do not infer hot-tub use, pressurized jets or indefinite submersion from a broad waterproof label.

Match the instruction to your version

A familiar name or similar silhouette is not enough. Different generations, sizes or supplied controllers can have different limitations. A device's rating also does not automatically apply to its remote control, cable or power adapter.

Before buying, ask: “Is this exact variant approved for the water use I have in mind, and where is that stated in the manual?” If the answer is unclear, keep the device out of water until it is resolved.

Charging is a separate situation

Keep charging equipment away from water and follow the manual's drying and charging instructions. A device that may be used in water when disconnected is not thereby safe to charge near water. Do not connect a wet device or wet contacts.

For help identifying the correct cable and indicator, see our charging guide. Avoid testing an unknown connector or opening a sealed housing to investigate a charging problem.

Choose cleaning around the instructions

The permitted cleaning method depends on both the material and the electronic construction. A surface described as silicone does not mean the whole assembled device can be boiled, submerged or put in a dishwasher.

LELO's guidance on cleaning electronic toys distinguishes waterproof devices from models requiring a damp-cloth approach. The principle is useful, but the instructions for your own model remain the authority. Read our cleaning and storage guide for a practical checklist.

If the device has been damaged

A split surface, loose seal or damaged charging area deserves attention before further use. Do not assume an original water-resistance claim still applies after damage. Stop using the device and ask the seller or manufacturer how to proceed.

What to confirm before checkout

  • The exact model and variant.
  • The allowed water exposure and any limits.
  • The cleaning method and products recommended.
  • Whether accessories have separate restrictions.
  • The drying requirements before storage or charging.

For a Dear Tingle device, contact our support team with the model name if any water-use instructions are unclear. A clear answer to those questions is more useful than a bathroom photograph. Treat the image as presentation and the written instructions as the basis for care.
